The Embassy of Nepal in Cairo hosted a reception to celebrate the national day (constitution day) of Nepal at Sofitel El-Gazira, at the centre of Cairo on Wednesday, 20 September 2017. H. E. Mr. Yasser Murad, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs of Egypt participated the function as Chief Guest. Senior government officials, ambassadors, heads of regional and international organization based in Cairo, media people, business community, members of Nepali community, officials of the Embassy and family members and Egyptian friends of Nepal were present on the occasion.
The Ambassador of Nepal to Egypt H.E. Mr. Jhabindra P. Aryal, while welcoming the distinguished guests in the celebrations, delivered a speech highlighting the importance of the day as well as the salient features of Nepal’s constitution adopted by the constituent assembly and approved by the overwhelming majority of the parliament. The Ambassador also shed light on the excellent state of bilateral relations between Nepal and Egypt stating that both countries treasure ancient cultures and civilizations, thus exists tremendous scope and potential to further promote tourism, trade, investment for the mutual benefit of the two countries. He emphasized that the year 2017 is very special one for Nepal-Egypt relations as it marks the 60th anniversary (diamond jubilee) of the establishment of the diplomatic relations. He also encouraged the business community, travel/tour operators, investors to make mutual exchanges and collaborations to promote tourism, trade and investment as Nepal offers opportunities and potentials in these areas.
The Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs speaking at the function conveyed congratulations and best wishes on behalf of the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt and expressed confidence that the new constitution of the federal democratic republic of Nepal would usher the country towards stability, peace, progress and economic development. He also highlighted the bilateral relations matured over the past six decades expanding the areas of cooperation in the best interests of two countries. As active members of the United Nations and founding members of the NAM, Egypt and Nepal have been working together and helping each other in regional and international forums, he added. The Ambassador and the chief guest jointly cut the celebration cake following their statements.
The programme was started with playing the national anthems of the two countries. Nepal’s cultural heritages, beautiful geographical landscapes, adventure tourism activities, wildlife in Nepal were screened throughout the programme.
